Translating Self-Care to Business Success

Businesswomen, entrepreneurs, and professional women are the last to often make themselves a priority. We seem to always be running around taking care of everyone else. We, however, then find ourselves depleted, stressed, and burned out. Yet, our well-being directly impacts the bottom line.

YOU are your primary business asset. You must treat yourself like the precious commodity it is. We readily make time for others but why is it so hard to put ourselves at the top of the list? We were not put on this earth to self-sacrifice or be martyrs. We each have a unique purpose, a divinely appointed mission. What are you doing presently that is preventing you from fulfilling this? So on this fabulous Monday, let’s choose to do things differently.

Begin your day with mindfulness, meditation, prayer, exercise, focused breathing. Make sure to time block yourself into your busy schedule just as you would with a project or client matter. Take breaks for sunshine. Get up from your desk and walk outside. Bring nature inside with some flowers or a plant on your desk. Have a beautiful crystal pitcher or favorite glass filled with water and lemons, cucumbers, or mint in your office to stay hydrated. Eat-and yes don’t forget to do that!-healthy and eye-pleasing small plates that sustain you. Brain energy is directly connected to those much needed habits. Take a pet break-I love playing with our family dogs, “Goose” and “Maverick” and it’s amazing how they can re-adjust my attitude in a matter of moments.

Make plans in advance in your calendar for “date nights”, family outings, spa days, or a girls-only getaway. Make sleep a priority. There’s nothing worthy about glorifying how busy you are or “working all the time.”

When you start truly taking care of yourself, you will not only notice a direct increase in your personal happiness but also experience a major impact on your productivity, creativity, and clarity in your business and financial success. You will be more strategic, focused, purposeful in your business decisions. You will accomplish more in less time and instead of just grinding, being repetitive by habit, and fostering busyness-you will actually be doing your best work which will translate to professional and business success.

Here’s to living our best lives ever! Go out and make it a fabulous week.
